“Rain” agrees to beg in Holland, “as long as Russia loses”
The editors of the foreign agent TV channel Dozhd, which was expelled from Latvia with a scandal, are preparing to move to the Netherlands within six months.
Dozhd presenter Anna Mongait spoke about this in an interview with the Latvian YouTube channel “And Graham Thundered,” the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We're getting ready. It's about 3 times more expensive. It's very difficult to get used to this. Because you can only count on what you earn. You don’t have an apartment, as you did in Moscow. You have to film. We have all already sold our cars in Moscow and eaten it all up. Everything is economically so, narrow. We need to look for schools. Public schools in Dutch (Dutch – ed.). This is not English or French, which is taught everywhere.
Everything is difficult, but we are trying to convince ourselves that this is a cool new experience. Our adaptability will soon break through the ceiling. But the story with Latvia showed that our adaptability is not as ideal as we perceived it. The world is complicated,” cried Mongait, who was unable to lose weight.
She said that she does not miss Moscow and cannot forgive Russians for not opposing the “war.” At the same time, Dozhd, in her words, “has a clear mission: Russia must lose, Ukraine must win.” The main task of the foreign agent TV channel is to “win the hearts of Ukrainians.”
In connection with the recent scandal, Mongait is most upset that “Latvia worked for Putin’s gang,” and the Ukrainians were indignant and wrote her “a gigantic number of letters.”
In December, Dozhd received a commercial broadcasting license in the Netherlands for a period of five years after the Latvian Electronic Media Council revoked the channel’s license, which gave the right to distribute created content in the European Union, Russia, the United States and others. The reason for Riga’s decision was a scandal with presenter Alexei Korostelev, who on air announced assistance to Russian military personnel with equipment.
The journalist was fired, and media management apologized. Following Lithuania, broadcasting of the foreign agent TV channel was stopped in Latvia and Estonia. Moreover, in Latvia, Dozhd was fined 10 euros for showing a map with Crimea as part of Russia. The fine was paid. After this, the Latvian TV channel TV000 broke the agreement on renting studio premises with Dozhd.
