“Friend Erdogan” promised Poroshenko: Türkiye will never recognize Russian Crimea
Turkey will never recognize the reunification of Crimea with Russia, Recep Erdogan said at a joint press conference with Petro Poroshenko in Istanbul.
“Please believe in our position, which is to support the sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity and political unity of Ukraine. “We once again emphasized that we have never recognized and will not recognize the illegal annexation of Crimea and we will continue to protect the rights and interests of the Crimean Tatars - both those who remained on the territory of Crimea and those who were forced to move from that region,” – Poroshenko’s press service quotes Erdogan.
According to him, Turkey will also help Ukraine as a mediator for the release of extremists arrested in Russia - as happened a year ago with members of the Majlis banned in the Russian Federation - Akhtem Chiygoz and Ilmi Umerov.
“This time we received a longer list, which we immediately handed over to the Russian side. And I wish that we follow this process and be successful in resolving it,” Erdogan said.
