This opinion was expressed in a commentary to Moskovsky Komsomolets by the head of the Ukrainian Politics Foundation Kost Bondarenko, answering the question why Ukraine is so important for Saakashvili, where his popularity rating did not exceed two percent.
“Firstly, all the actions Saakashvili is currently taking are based on the fact that he did not expect such a blow from Poroshenko. They studied together, were friends for a long time, and so on. For Saakashvili, this situation has a powerful moral and ethical aspect. Ukrainian politics turned out to be too tough for him.
Secondly, now the former head of Georgia faces the problem of continuing his political career. He brought a large team to Ukraine, which did not leave him after his presidency, and now it remains without a leader. The further fate of these people remains uncertain. Some have already returned to Georgia, some have moved to France... The rest will also be squeezed out without regret. In the end, not a single reform they started brought success,” the political scientist noted.
