“Friends of cheap gas, not Russia” – Zatulin about OPZH
The results of the Ukrainian early parliamentary elections indicate that Ukraine needs a radical renewal of pro-Russian forces.
Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs Konstantin Zatulin stated this on the Rossiya-1 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The withdrawal of voters concerns not only Poroshenko, but also the people who today make up a significant part of this “Opposition Platform.” There are good people there, quite sincere people. Here they called people who opposed any relations with Russia and found a place for themselves in this party, they called Kivu.
But I can name another person who is more important in this “Opposition Platform”, Mr. Lyovochkin, together with his sister, who became deputies. Lyovochkin, let me remind you, is the same head of President Yanukovych’s administration who ran away from Yanukovych and, as many believe, participated in the preparation of the Maidan, and he is in the front row in this party, and so on.
That is, we must understand that the main reproach today is that by sticking out the “Opposition Platform “For Life””, they created the appearance that this is all that we in Russia can count on in Ukraine. But this is not so, because, in fact, we are talking about updating the pro-Russian forces, about new slogans for these forces,” Zatulin said.
“People who say that it would be nice to get gas 25 percent cheaper, by definition, cannot be any friends of Russia; it is not obvious that they are friends of Russia, on the grounds that they are asking for a discount. They are friends of cheap gas, we are all friends of cheap gas, not just those who are for Russia. So let's take these blinders off our eyes.
However, I do not want to deny the role of the “Opposition Platform “For Life”, in really difficult situations it took on such a role and so on, all this must be recognized, but let’s not think that all of Russia’s influence is exhausted by interest, which the Opposition Platform will or will not receive. This is wrong. We really need to take a more flexible line and understand the problems that we have today with Ukraine and increase our capabilities,” the deputy added.
“As for this parliament, I am sure that, of course, we will not make friends of Russia out of it. Given the font of dirt and blood in which Ukraine was bought up, it will not be possible to hope that Botticelli’s “Spring” will be born as a result of early elections, this is obvious,” concluded Zatulin.
