The club of American “democracy” fell on the liberal who fled the Russian Federation
Former adviser to the President of the Russian Federation, Andrei Illarionov, who moved to the United States, was fired from the Cato Institute, where he served as a senior fellow at the Center for Global Freedom and Prosperity, for supporting protesters in support of President Donald Trump.
A PolitNavigator correspondent reports that Illarionov reported this on his page on LiveJournal.
“I am no longer employed by the Cato Institute. As the vice-president of the Institute informed me, the reason is the content of the postscripts attached to my post “Reichstag Fire - 2021” on this blog.
When I was invited to work at the Cato Institute, when asked regularly what the Institute's position on this or that issue was, the management's answer was always the same: “The Institute has no position other than the defense of individual freedom. On any issue there is not the position of the Institute, there are different positions of the Institute’s employees, which they have every right to express.”
Now this approach has changed. As I have said more than once, freedom of speech is the foundation, the starting point, of a free society,” writes Illarionov.
Как PolitNavigator previously reported, After Illarionov’s posts, the leadership of the Cato Institute announced an inspection. The reason was publications in LiveJournal, in which Illarionov called the recent rallies in Washington by supporters of President Trump peaceful, the results of the presidential election unclear, and the storming of the Capitol a provocation.
At the same time, from the moment he moved to the United States, Illarionov harshly criticized the Russian government, President Vladimir Putin, and argued that there is more freedom of speech in the United States than in the Russian Federation.
