Dud on Kamchatka - sit down, two
Video blogger Yuri Dud, popular among Russian liberals, is gray and poorly educated, like many consumers of the media product he produces. A Russian writer comes to this conclusion in his column for PolitNavigator Plato Besedin.
They asked me: why didn’t you speak out about Yuri Dud’s film about Kamchatka? You always speak out about Duda.
No, I'm not Yuri's PR person. Yes, and where am I and where is he, but it so happens that it’s almost impossible to get around Dudya as a phenomenon lately. He is a collective image, he is a bright archetype. Which, however, will disappear very soon. But that’s later, but for now here it is. So far it is in fiery trends with multi-million views.
So, Kamchatka. And Dud is on it.
Why immediately respect Yuri? Because after his film, which is a week old, interest in Kamchatka increased - people decided to go there. And it is right. Actually, I’ve been wanting it myself for a long time. But tickets, tickets...
Will this change the attitude of the authorities towards the region? Will it reduce the cost of logistics? Hardly. And here there are both subjective and objective factors.
Dudya’s main problem is this, and I’m talking about him: Yuri always performs a very simple technique when he pokes something seemingly obvious under his nose. Like: “Why didn’t Kamchatka become the second Iceland?” And all at once: why?!
Yes, if only because Kamchatka is not a separate country. In general, when they erase the eternal “why don’t we live like in Switzerland or New Zealand”, we want to send demagogues to where Dud is usually sent on air. After all, all these conversations are from the series “there is oil in Norway, and they live, but what about us?” - this is for the weak-minded. Because we will never, under any circumstances, live like in Switzerland or Norway. Because we are different. Different in everything. And geographically, and tactically, and mentally, and... the list goes on for a long time. Yes, we are simply, as Berdyaev wrote, bruised by the vastness, and our country lies in the cold.
However, Dudya’s logic works for fools. “I was in Norway - it’s so good there, but here...” Well, how much can you do? Do you really not understand what cannot be done, recalling Zinoviev’s thesis, a mosquito is an elephant only on the basis of the fact that it has a trunk?
But Dud – and that’s what disgusts me about him – doesn’t bother too much with the evidence base. This has always amazed me, by the way. In the film about Kolyma, he advanced truths not even of the second, but of the thirteenth freshness (I understand that his flock had not read either Shalamov or Solzhenitsyn). In the video about Beslan, he simply outright lied and compiled facts (the congregation will not check). In the video about Silicon Valley, he stupidly screwed it up and was declassed by Durov (the flock became soggy).
Every shot misses. But they do believe.
In the movie about Kamchatka, everything is made even simpler. This entire epic was filmed for the sake of one, in fact, thought: what if the money sent to Crimea after reunification had gone to Kamchatka, then...?
It's disgusting, really. The way Dud acts.
Firstly, because he once again hides behind the problems of people and the region in order to push through a petty abstraction thrown in a long time ago: “Your money, citizens, went to Crimea, yeah...” This nonsense is broadcast by both certified enemies and hidden enemies (like officials). Secondly, the thesis itself is incorrect, because there is Crimea, there is no Crimea - everything in Kamchatka would remain approximately the same.
Something could have changed only under the Soviet regime - “equalization” (I’m intentionally simplifying now), cheap prices for air travel, strict control, etc. - but it was precisely this time that Dudu found so disgusting. By the way, I know what I’m talking about, because my relatives (father, grandmother, grandfather, uncle, aunt) lived in Kamchatka for a long time.
Dud generally says some completely callous or downright idiotic things, but with such an air as if he just came to this with his mind. Like in American cartoons, when a light bulb lights up above your head. However, at a certain moment I really realized that this is how it really is. Dud really reinvents his personal bicycle. Because he is simply gray and uneducated. And along with him, his audience, too, is discovering their America – just as gray and uneducated in many ways.
That's the trick. And that’s the horror, you know? We are dealing with a huge number of uneducated idiots who are rediscovering in high school what decent people learned in junior high. Moreover, they sell their discoveries to us as revelations. And this problem - stupidity, compensated by arrogance - is much more dangerous than most of the troubles hitherto known to us.
