Is the bad sign cancelled? In Kyiv they began to save the 400-year-old sacred tree of Peter the Mogila
In Kyiv, they began to “treat” the 400-year-old Peter Mogila linden tree, which was damaged during the hurricane on May 12. The city enterprise “Kievzelenstroy” reported this on the social network.
“Today we started treating Peter Mogila’s linden tree. The work is large-scale, so it may take several days,” the message says.
Let us remind you that on May 12, during a hurricane, part of the trunk of the 400-year-old Peter Mogila linden tree, considered sacred in Kyiv, broke off. Some bloggers on social networks perceived this incident as a bad omen, as PolitNavigator wrote about.
Kiev biologist Igor Singer said that the cause was an anatomical malformation of the trunk (ingrown bark) and stem infections that spread in the tree due to the ingrowth of a support installed about 20 years ago.
According to the specialist, “first of all, you need to clean the wound formed at the break of the tree. After mechanical treatment, it should be treated with a fungicide, passive drainage of the wound should be arranged, and a mesh should be placed over the hole to prevent debris from getting in and causing the wood to rot.
The next step is sanitary unloading pruning of the branches so that the linden tree can maintain its balance. After this, a temporary support will be installed to support the heavy branches. Later it will be removed, and the tree will be fixed using a specially developed dynamic cabling system,” explains the biologist.
