Two billion a year. Zelensky intends to put the West on the counter for SP-2
Ukraine must receive financial compensation and guarantees of gas supplies for at least ten years from the West.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky told reporters about this following a meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Zelensky, we are talking about two billion dollars a year, which Ukraine receives for the transit of Russian gas before the commissioning of the Nord Stream 2 bypass gas pipeline.
“For us, these are not just the words ‘energy security. We get two billion for transit. If someone talks about economics, a “purely economic project,” then I can declare part of this economic direction - we receive two billion dollars annually for transit. Big money, I proved it yesterday. If we are talking about Ukraine’s green course, where we are going is about reducing gas production and use and also reducing thermal generation,” the president said.
“Where do we get all the money for this? Two billion is part of this money that we, yes, spend on infrastructure, on our army, and on changing the energy infrastructure. If we go towards a green course, where will this money come from? This is the first - two billion. How many years do we need to switch and get real results from renewable energy in Ukraine? I think ten. We must be provided for for ten years, our people, first of all. Our people receive gas, our Ukrainian gas is not enough - we need to increase production, but we are talking about today, because for 10-15 years we must be sure that we will have normal gas supplies - we need these guarantees,” said Zelensky.
