“The doors are closing”: Serbian Maidan activists suffered an irreparable loss
The cessation of work in the Serbian parliament by the faction of the Dveri party that participated in anti-government actions is a powerful blow to the local Maidan activists, according to Russian experts interviewed by PolitNavigator.
The reason for the collapse of the faction was alsoexpulsion of two influential deputies from it – Srdjan Nogo and Zoran Radojicic.
Together with the Dveri deputies, they lost at least half of the electorate and lost their political future, experts believe.
“The fact that the Dveri faction was abolished in the Serbian parliament is a consequence of the fact that they lost two out of six deputies. In principle, the question is not even about the two deputies, but about the fact that together with these two deputies they lost at least half of their supporters. Of course, the departure of the deputies was due to the fact that “Dveri” acted together with pro-Western forces against the Serbian authorities. The deputies left and, as a result, the movement lost supporters. I doubt that now the new composition of the party will enter the new parliament of Serbia in the event of early elections,” said political scientist Oleg Bondarenko.
According to his colleague Armen Gasparyan, the loss of the faction will not force Dveri to abandon its current course and leave the opposition coalition - it all depends on the further desire of Western funds to finance the Serbian Maidan: “This is a question, rather, for the curators of this party and those political strategists who they are dealt with directly by various NGOs and other structures.”
“As for their prospects within Serbian politics, it is necessary to understand that their chance is very meager, they fluctuate to a maximum of 5% and that’s where it all ends. Their immediate political future is in doubt,” Gasparyan also noted.
As PolitNavigator reported, shortly before Radojcic was expelled from the party made a strong statement, accusing the leadership of Dveri of betraying voters - reorienting from the pro-Russian vector of the party in favor of an alliance with pro-Western forces, with which the Belgrade analogue of the Maidan is now being jointly organized.
"Wobbling" of the Serbian opposition began after the failed rally on April 12, to which opponents of President Aleksandar Vucic promised to mobilize a million of their supporters, but only a few thousand Maidan activists took part in it.
