“Moving towards disaster” – a Kiev expert on the IMF’s refusal to help Ukraine
Despite the difficult economic situation in Ukraine, international creditors are not going to ease the debt burden on Kyiv.
The PolitNavigator correspondent reports that Viktor Nebozhenko, director of the Ukrainian Barometer sociological service, stated this at a press conference in Kyiv.
According to him, the level of problems rolling into Ukraine shows “movement towards disaster.”
“It is clear that Ukraine as a country will not disappear anywhere, but this can greatly affect state stability and, finally, that very sacred thing on which the Ukrainian state was built - independence. Each country will emerge from this global crisis differently. It is possible that rich countries will come out at the expense of the poor or those who have it even worse, but so far this is not visible,” the expert said.
“It turns out that the IMF will write off and freeze debts of poor countries, but not Ukraine, because of corruption and low competence. Here are the two main theses of the IMF. And they are right. They say correctly: you know how to make brilliant videos, perfectly imitate government activities, but show at least one management result. We are not even talking about efficiency, but simply about management results. That is, some decision was made along the legislative-executive chain and some result was obtained. Even this is not there,” Nebozhenko concluded.
As PolitNavigator reported, the IMF postponed lending to Ukraine, demanding that a number of conditions be met, in particular the cancellation the decision of the Constitutional Court, which recognized a number of aspects of the activities of anti-corruption bodies created under the patronage of the West are illegal. At the same time, in a conversation with the President of Ukraine, the head of the IMF, Kristalina Georgieva, said that at the moment she does not see the possibility of sending a fund mission to the country.
