The editor-in-chief of the weekly “New Crimea” Igor Azarov writes about this in his column.
“As before, the authorities really want praise and don’t like criticism - but this has always been the case everywhere. For example, the attempt of the Majlis figures to “reshape their frock coat”, quietly and with the same (but slightly combed-up) claims to nestle in the Russian political space, cannot cause our delight. The assistance of the authorities to this Majlis rebranding causes our concern - as well as the obsessive interest of Tatarstan and the Republic of Crimea ". It’s hard to forget how guests from Kazan just recently danced around the frantic Russophobe Mustafa Dzhemilev and his gang. Maybe this was some kind of “special mission” approved at stratospheric heights? But a sediment remained,” notes the author, emphasizing that “two "Tatarstans are too much for Russia. Even more so."
Crimean Russians, the editor-in-chief is sure, want to see the peninsula unequivocally Russian:
“It seems to us that the Crimean autonomy has exhausted its historical mission. What is the use and sense for us today of using our autonomous palm to hide behind Moscow?
But is it to please Kazan? Or perhaps Ankara? I think that in the distant, but still foreseeable future, the question of transforming Crimea into an ordinary Russian region, like Ryazan or Kostroma, should be raised,” suggests the Simferopol journalist.
