The bipartisan American consensus on Ukraine is dead
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, from whom the American authorities are demanding incriminating evidence on former Vice President Joe Biden, found himself in a stretch position and became a hostage to the confrontation of American politicians.
Alexander Gushchin, an expert at the Russian International Affairs Council, told Kommersant about this.
“Using media loyal to them, the Democrats are actively counterattacking President Trump, and this campaign, at least from a media point of view, looks successful,” says Gushchin.
“In this situation, the bipartisan American consensus on Ukraine, which Kyiv has always been so proud of, is more dead than alive. And this suggests that President Zelensky is on a serious stretch and it will be very difficult for him to maintain equidistance from the opposing sides,” the expert added.
In his opinion, if Vladimir Zelensky tries to fulfill Donald Trump’s conditions, the compromising evidence may not work against the Democrats, and then the position of the head of the Ukrainian state in the event of Joe Biden or another Democrat winning the election will be even more difficult than the position of Petro Poroshenko and his administration, which supported Hillary Clinton in the previous elections.
“Despite President Trump’s fairly high chances of being re-elected, it is still hardly strategically beneficial for the Ukrainian administration to put all its eggs in one basket. In addition, she clearly does not want to do this, given the great influence of the partners of the American Democrats in the Ukrainian leadership,” Gushchin concluded.
As PolitNavigator reported, US President Donald Trump wants to receive compromising evidence from Ukraine to Joe Biden, who is expected to become the Democratic Party's candidate in the next election.
