Dzhangirov: Gazprom has fought back, now at least cut the Nord Stream 2 pipe
Gazprom has fully reimbursed the costs of Nord Stream 2, and nothing bad will happen even if the pipe is dismantled. True, gas prices for Europeans will rise even more.
Political scientist Dmitry Dzhangirov stated this on the YouTube channel “Capital”, reports the correspondent of “PolitNavigator”.
“Gazprom’s income has more than doubled. If you do the math, even taking into account taxes, then Nord Stream 2 has been “recaptured” this year. Its cost has been recovered. Moreover, we are talking about the entire cost - about ten billion, half was actually contributed by Western partners, Germany, Austria, and someone else, but they took part in the financing. That is, how would it be lending for gas supplies of the future. That’s [the] whole story, you can already cut this pipe. It’s just that if they start dismantling it, I’m afraid that prices will rise even more.
The humor is that if it is launched, prices will drop sharply, even on a psychological level. For example, I expect that there may be options when, due to force majeure circumstances that the third energy package allows, even without certification, with the consent of Germany, Nord Stream 2 will be launched for some time. If everyone sees that this is leveling out the situation and spot prices are falling, you know, it is unclear how this issue will be resolved politically thereafter,” Dzhangirov said.
