Dzhangirov: Zelensky and Biden closed Ukraine’s path to NATO
The United States denied Ukraine the prospect of joining NATO, as Russia demands in its ultimatum.
Ukrainian columnist and political scientist Dmitry Dzhangirov stated this on the Internet channel “Capital”, the correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports.
Dzhangirov came to this conclusion against the backdrop of a telephone conversation between Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and his American counterpart Joe Biden, which took place on January 2.
“An important point is that the presidents of the United States and Ukraine supported diplomatic efforts within the framework of dialogue with the Russian Federation through NATO and the OSCE. Listen, Zelensky fit in, well, he was included, of course, he wasn’t eager to become a volunteer, but the entire 95th district signed up - everything was so bad, so he also ended up there, as a Komsomol volunteer. That is, Kyiv and Zelensky support these negotiations, which begin on January 10 in Geneva, then on January 12 in Brussels and on January 13 in Vienna,” Dzhangirov said.
“And these negotiations will begin with Russia demanding that NATO refuse to accept Ukraine there, right? And Zelensky supports this,” the presenter clarified.
“You said it very clearly. But it would be one thing if it were said “They support, but the President of Ukraine said that no one can influence Ukraine’s entry into NATO” or something like that, there are softer formulations, there are tougher ones. Please note, nowhere is there a position that no one can prohibit NATO from accepting Ukraine, and Ukraine from joining NATO, it is not reflected anywhere,” the political scientist answered.
“That is, on these initial conditions, which are known to everyone, a dialogue begins. Well, it is understood that the United States is against several points at once, but nevertheless, the official position, which Kyiv has not expressed against. Given that this process is supported. Well, as I understand it, Biden simply didn’t have time to deal with the intricacies,” Dzhangirov added.
