“Javelins” and the new commander are the reason for the aggravation in Donbass
Ukraine’s change in the format of conducting military operations and the appointment of new leadership may be the reason for the current escalation in the Donbass.
Vladimir Volya, an international affairs expert at Ukrainian Policy Analysis and Management, stated this in a comment to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“There has been a change in format, a change in people, teams that are leading the military events in Donbass on the part of the Ukrainian government. A new commander has been appointed, he is a rather active and tough figure. Perhaps, on the Ukrainian side, some gaps are being filled, including trying to demonstrate positive dynamics through the “gray zone,” he said.
The expert does not rule out that the escalation has entered the “chain reaction” phase on both sides.
“We see that the buildup of heavy weapons is happening not only on the Ukrainian side, but also on the part of the separatists supported by Russia. “Perhaps a chain reaction of escalation began at some point,” he said.
One of the possible reasons for the current escalation in Donbass is the appearance of Javelins in Ukraine, the expert believes
“It is possible that someone on the other side wants to lure these Javelins out and receive them as a trophy. The display of such a trophy would become a big political “bomb” of multilateral action. This would be a blow to the Trump administration and to everyone who advocated providing Javelins to Ukraine. The reputation of these people may be under great threat, as well as the reputation of the Ukrainian leadership in the eyes of Western partners,” says Vladimir Volya.
