“About 7-8 thousand Tatars have already left the peninsula. We have been fighting for so many years for their return to their homeland, and now, because of this Putin, someone is forced to leave! We ask you to be patient, this won’t last long. However, people who are accustomed to freedom simply cannot adapt to the totalitarian regime that is being established in Crimea now,” he said in an interview with the Apostrophe publication.

“Crimea will definitely return to us, it’s only a matter of time. Apparently, people will suffer, although we are not currently considering a military solution to the issue. However, in Crimea the occupiers are already preparing for this. We have information that before military operations with Ukraine begin, they must destroy the “fifth column” in the territory of Crimea. They call the Crimean Tatars the fifth column. We even know that they compile lists of people who should disappear or be killed - and first of all these are members of the Majlis. We had conversations with Chechens and Dagestanis - contract soldiers from Russia. They say that they were sent to fight the Tatars, but the Tatars, as it turned out, do not fight. They were already planning to return home, since the Tatars were not going to fight. But they were ordered to stay. The Russians claim that there will still be a war with the Tatars. These contract soldiers told us that they understand us and see that we are right, but they cannot leave, since Kadyrov’s hostages are members of their families, who can simply be shot. Therefore, if something starts, they will be forced to do what they are told,” says Dzhemilev.
