Mustafa Dzhemilev, a member of the Verkhovna Rada and the Commissioner of the President of Ukraine for the Affairs of the Crimean Tatar People, stated this in an interview with the Polish publication Gazeta Wyborcza.
“The West may pay dearly for compliance on issues related to the occupation of Crimea. After all, it was the United States, Great Britain, together with Russia in 1994 that persuaded Ukraine to give up its nuclear arsenal under the provision of security guarantees and territorial integrity. By submitting to Moscow's dictatorship regarding Crimea, the world is essentially abandoning efforts to prevent the proliferation of nuclear weapons. The example of Ukraine teaches dictators that only the presence of atomic weapons gives them security guarantees,” says the interview, excerpts from which are posted on Dzhemilev’s Facebook page.
