Dzhemilev recalled how the Crimean Tatars burned Moscow
Kyiv, December 12 (PolitNavigator, Maxim Karpenko) – If Crimea is a sacred place for Russians, then Moscow is a sacred place for Crimean Tatars. People's Deputy of Ukraine, former leader of the Majlis Mustafa Dzhemilev stated this on the air of Estonian Radio 4.

This is how the eternal dissident and, as he puts it, “Putin’s enemy,” commented on the Russian President’s address to the Federal Assembly.
“The fact that Prince Vladimir was baptized there means he was Prince Vladimir of Kyiv. If someone was once baptized on our territory, or did something else, and on this basis, then Moscow is also a very sacred place for the Crimean Tatars - Devlet Giray, after he captured Moscow, hung his whip there for the edification of others. But we don’t lay claim to Moscow as our sacred place,” Dzhemilev said on the Estonian Russian-language Radio 4.
Crimean Khan Devlet Giray (1551-1577) is known for his numerous military campaigns, mainly wars with the Russian state. He sought to restore the independence of the Kazan and Astrakhan khanates, conquered by Ivan IV the Terrible in 1552 and 1556.
In the spring of 1571, Geray's troops burned Moscow. The following year he went on a new campaign, but was completely defeated by the Russians.
Geray died of the plague and was buried in Bakhchisarai.
