“Views are divided. Someone says that Ukraine has abandoned us, and we need to save ourselves. Others say that in such a situation they are forced to obtain passports. Still others believe that we need to go to parliament in order to somehow protect the rights of our people in Crimea. And someone else says that there can be no contacts or relations with the occupiers,” Dzhemilev listed in an interview with Kraina magazine.
As an example, he cited the last meeting of the Kurultai, where for the first time in recent years the flag of Ukraine was not unfurled and the Ukrainian anthem was not played, although the charter states that the anthem will be played at the opening of the Kurultai.
Dzhemilev clarified that his reaction “was very tough” - he was able to convince his fellow tribesmen that the Ukrainian flag is “not a piece of matter, but a symbol.”
