Dzhemilev complains: Zelensky, following Poroshenko, “threw” the Mejlis members
President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky, like his predecessor Petro Poroshenko, decided to “dump” the Mejlis members with a promise to write “Crimean Tatar autonomy” into the text of the country’s Constitution, albeit virtual.
The former leader of the Majlis banned in the Russian Federation, Mustafa Dzhemilev, complained about this on the Dom TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We met officially with the president twice. The first time was on August 9 last year and the last time on May 18 this year. At both of these meetings, the issues of adopting legislative acts on the autonomous republic and on the rights of the Crimean Tatar people were raised, and in both cases the president said that he agreed with the need to adopt these regulations.
After they are reviewed by experts, he will give the go-ahead. We really wanted these draft legislative acts to come on behalf of the president. Moreover, there is a mono-majority there, and if there is a clear signal from the president that these documents must be accepted, then success would be ensured.
But all this is delayed. The last time we met and reminded of this, the president said: “Let’s create a working group that will consider these bills.” We immediately, the next day, offered our representatives. More than six months have already passed, from May 18 to the present day, and there is silence from the presidential administration. There are no signals. It seems that the president gave instructions, but nothing is being carried out,” Dzhemilev laments.
Let us remind you that ex-President Petro Poroshenko successfully performed a similar trick with the Medjlis members. At first, the Mejlis members were promised autonomy, then the topic of the working group was promoted for a long time, and ultimately everything came to naught with Poroshenko’s departure.
