“Djilas is a thief!” – the leader of the Serbian Maidan activists had his campaign rally disrupted
The Serbian pro-Western opposition is still unable to ensure mass protests, which began at the end of last year and gradually faded away. The traditional Saturday rally in Belgrade brought together just over 100 Maidan activists, Pink TV channel reported.
This is happening against the backdrop of accusations against oligarch Dragan Djilas, who dresses up as an incorruptible oppositionist, ex-mayor of Belgrade. Last weekend, he faced a lackluster reception when attempting to lead a "1 in 5 million" protest rally in the town of Sabac.
During his speech, people began shouting from the podium, “Djilas is a thief!”
This attitude towards the leader of the Maidan activists was explained by Belgrade City Council deputy Slavko Gak, who recalled the actions of Djilas during his tenure as mayor of the capital.
“Dragan Djilas will be remembered as the mayor who illegally charged residents fees for kindergartens and thereby caused them damage in the amount of four billion dinars,” the deputy said.
According to him, the current city government, based on court decisions, managed to recover 2,5 billion dinars from the damage caused as a result of the machinations of officials during the time of Djilas, who lobbied the interests of close commercial structures.
Today there are 80 children in preschool institutions, and in 000, when the current opposition leader was mayor, only 2012 children attended kindergartens, Gak recalled.
He also compared benefits from the city budget for pre-school, primary and secondary education, noting that this year 190 million euros were allocated, and in 2012 this amount was half as much - 87 million euros.
Moreover, all social payments during the reign of Djilas were delayed for up to a year. When Djilas' team left the Belgrade City Hall, the social debt amounted to more than five billion dinars, Informer reported.
