Johnson consoles Gordon: Trump will not abandon you
If he wins the US presidential election, Donald Trump will continue to help Ukraine, but will demand more involvement from European countries.
Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said this in an interview with Kyiv journalist Dmitry Gordon, notorious for PR charlatans and anti-Russian propaganda, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Johnson, there is no need to put too much faith in Trump now, because there is an election race in which candidates say what their electorate wants to hear.
“Everyone needs to be more careful, a little more patient. Now elections are being held, during elections people can say different things, they have different electoral audiences to which they must reach. But Trump was actually the first to send Javelins to Ukraine; Obama did not do this...
I think Trump will want to be the president who stands up for freedom and makes America great again. He won’t want to become the president who surrendered to Putin,” the politician said.
“I think that Trump will continue the policies that the United States is pursuing, because it is deeply in the interests of America itself. So what does Trump want? He needs the Europeans to spend more on defense. The support of the Ukrainians has already led to a massive increase in European self-sufficiency, Finland and Sweden have become NATO members, and European support for the Alliance as a whole is growing.
The French, Germans, and almost all European countries are increasing their military spending. America has been calling for this for 40 years, and now it's happening,” Johnson said.
