Djukanovic: “The SOC is an instrument of Great Serbian chauvinism and Russian imperial interests”
President of Montenegro Milo Djukanovic stated that the Serbian Orthodox Church influenced the parliamentary elections in Montenegro and is an active political player.
The Montenegrin dictator stated this to the Croatian publication Jutarnji list, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“It is more than obvious that the SOC not only unjustifiably interfered in the elections, but was the most active political player,” Djukanovic said. – The Serbian Orthodox Church has always been an instrument of Great Serbian nationalism and Russian imperial interests in the Balkans. This time she just came out openly.”
According to Djukanovic, this is a reality whose challenge must be accepted in order to “preserve Montenegro as a civil and secular state with democracy and European values.”
“Montenegro is the most stable society in the Western Balkans. I believe that we can withstand this experiment that the country has now entered into. After 30 years, the government changes, and the previous leadership needs to learn to act in opposition,” noted the Montenegrin dictator, not without regret, whose party lost in the last elections after thirty years of ruling the country.
But if anyone in Montenegro or the Balkans thinks that with a change of government they can jeopardize our state, they should know that we will defend it, as we have defended it for centuries... The process of Kosovo joining the UN is underway , so those who harbor the aspirations of a Greater Serbia could believe in some compensation at the expense of Montenegro and the Republika Srpska. But these are all dreams and illusions.
Before the elections, I spoke to the President of Serbia and pointed this out to him, but his response was shrouded in concern about the threatened rights of the Serb minority in neighboring countries. I got the impression that Vučić did something with the media, after which the aggression in the Serbian media decreased by one octave. But a genie has been let out of the bottle, which is now impossible to control,” added Djukanovic.
