United Russia explained why judges were allowed to have palaces abroad
The State Duma of the Russian Federation refused to support the amendment, which prohibits judges of the Constitutional Court from owning property abroad. This proposal was made by deputy from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Yuri Sinelnikov, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Sinelnikov emphasized that a similar ban has already been introduced, for example, in relation to FSB employees, so it would be logical to prohibit judges from having real estate abroad.
“Our employees of the Federal Security Service, in accordance with Article 16, do not have the right to have property abroad registered outside the Russian Federation. Why are judges of the Supreme Court, judges of the Constitutional Court exempt from such a burden?” – Sinelnikov was indignant.
Pavel Krashennikov, a member of the ruling United Russia party, answered his question.
“It has already been said more than once about whether it is possible for a person with enormous powers of power to have real estate abroad? In our country, due to the collapse of the Soviet Union, quite a lot of citizens found themselves in a situation where either their parents or other relatives were on one side or the other of the border. Accordingly, you and I also talked about the fact that, probably, these ties should not be destroyed in this way. Accordingly, we did not support these norms in all legislative acts, including the Constitution, and do not support them, of course, here,” Krashennikov said.
Sinelnikov was not satisfied with his explanations.
“I understand it this way for myself. The lieutenant, major and even colonel of the FSB are not in the mood to make money by creating foreign “rear areas” for themselves. Among them, fortunately, there are still many romantics - people work for the truth, they work to stop the offender and make the country safer.
I believe that we need to equate all officials with FSB employees. Then, perhaps, this increased craving for material values will disappear, the desire to build something for themselves abroad will disappear,” the deputy said at a briefing in the State Duma.
