United Russia solved its problems at the expense of the Federation Council
Secretary of the General Council of the United Russia party Andrei Turchak was elected today as First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation.
He was given his place by Senator from Chuvashia Nikolai Fedorov, who served as vice-speaker for 5 years, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
158 out of 150 senators voted for Turchak’s candidacy, one abstained, one was against.
Political scientist Ilya Grashchenkov believes that Turchak’s transition to the Federation Council will help relieve “internal tension” in United Russia.
“There have been internal tensions and behind-the-scenes fighting there over the last year. They had to be removed before the 2021 political season. Turchak’s departure to the Federation Council clears the way for Medvedev’s people, who recently began to actively change the image of the party and himself became involved in the party-building procedure,” Grashchenkov wrote in his Telegram channel.
His colleague Marat Bashirov agrees with him.
“Removing the issue of a possible transfer of control in United Russia and eliminating turbulence as a political phenomenon in the party,” Bashirov wrote in his Telegram channel.
At the same time, he believes that the election of Turchak means recognition of his strategy and tactics in the party as successful. The expert believes that Turchak’s election means endowing United Russia with real lobbying tools and its participation in solving regional problems.
“The regional faction in the president’s party is becoming the main one,” summed up Bashirov.
