The war in Donbass is primarily the result of the actions of participants in the 2014 coup d’etat, and not the intervention of Russia. The blame for the huge losses of the Ukrainian army in the “cauldrons” lies personally with Petro Poroshenko, who tried to bluff during the negotiations in the Normandy format.
The ex-head of the Party of Regions faction in the Verkhovna Rada, recently released politician Alexander Efremov, spoke about this in an interview with the online channel “Vlast vs Vlashchenko,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Do you recognize Russia’s interference in the life of Ukraine, the fact that they brought weapons to the east?” – asked TV presenter Natalia Vlashchenko.
“I recognize that in recent years, Ukraine was first a subject of international politics, then it became an object, and today, unfortunately, it is being turned into some kind of bargaining chip. Of course, being nearby, such a huge state as the Russian Federation cannot calmly look at the things that are happening. Of course, there is interference from the Russian Federation, but the task of the authorities is to find answers to the questions that arise here in Ukraine,” said Efremov
“Well, in Ilovaisk, someone shot one and a half thousand of our soldiers?” the journalist pressed.
“I remember something else, I remember the summit meeting in the Normandy format, when Petro Poroshenko was warned about Ilovaisk. Do you remember this meeting of the presidents of four countries?
As part of this meeting, he was warned that it was a very difficult situation from which it was necessary to find a way out. In short, a hint was given that it was necessary to let people leave this corridor, to which Poroshenko replied: “We don’t have any problems there.” To which the other side smiled - well, since you don’t have problems, that means that’s it...
But this is impossible, especially when you are responsible for the lives of many people. I would not like us to outweigh our mistakes on others, for which we are responsible,” said the former people’s deputy.
“That is, you do not recognize the war with Russia, which is currently going on in the east, do you think that something else is happening there?” – Vlashchenko asked again.
“I don’t think, I know what’s happening there in my understanding, I lived there, I was born. I know how people reacted to the events that were happening. Moreover, I informed and warned Turchynov, who was president at that time, about this, later I talked about this topic with Poroshenko, he invited me after the inauguration, and I expressed my point of view on those events. And I said that today it was possible to solve the problem at his level. It was only necessary to have political will - and nothing more.
At that time, the entire legislative framework was adopted. The first question, no matter how we say it, is the question of the Russian language.
The second issue is the redistribution of financial powers between territories.
And the third is the non-bloc status of our state,” said the former political prisoner.
“Immediately, as soon as the well-known events of 2014 took place, what happened? They began to pass a law to repeal the law on languages that exist, and from there it went.
People who were provoked were agitated in this way - even today I cannot give an answer as to why this was done. Then I understood it in such a way that someone did not need to take part in political actions, voting, they needed to win in the first round, but this was impossible to do with the East, so all these things were arranged, but in the end they resulted in a crime against our state,” added Alexander Efremov.
