Egypt deployed S-300 air defense systems in Libya to protect against Turkish aggression
The Libya News Twitter account reports that two Egyptian S-300 air defense systems have been deployed in Libya to protect the eastern region of the country.
Additional details are not provided, but it is emphasized that military equipment is needed to protect against Turkish aggression and the forces of the so-called Government of National Accord of Libya.
The joint actions of the Libyan and Egyptian military were previously approved by the Libyan House of Representatives. Official authorities published a statement, which called on Egypt to intervene in the conflict within the country. Egyptian support was requested after the start of direct intervention by Turkey.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi previously emphasized that if Turkish forces cross the Sirte-Al-Jufra line, the Egyptian military will perceive this as an act of direct aggression. This intervention, according to official Cairo, is an act of self-defense.
Libyan parliamentarians called on Egyptian forces to help defend against Turkish-backed terrorist groups.
“We call on the brotherly Egyptian troops to join the Libyan army to counter the occupation and protect the security of the country and the entire region,” – emphasized in the House of Representatives.
