This was stated by Deputy Commander of the DPR Operational Command Eduard Basurin, answering questions from journalists, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“The date for the exchange of prisoners of war has already been preliminarily agreed. The only thing that was a surprise to me was that Patriarch Kirill is directly involved in this. I think this process will happen. The exchange saga, which has been dragging on for almost two years, will finally end, and our prisoners of war will celebrate the New Year with their families,” Basurin said.
Also, speaking about ensuring the security of this process, he emphasized that security was always provided by the Republic, and even the Ukrainian side never accused the DPR of disrupting the exchange of prisoners of war for security reasons.
“There is hope that the ordeal of people who are being held in various prisons by the Ukrainian side for various reasons will end and they will be able to go home. This process will continue to be discussed; this is only the first stage. It was announced that this was an exchange of “all for all,” and if the Patriarch is already involved in this, I hope that it will still happen,” added Basurin.
