Nemtsov's ex-comrade: Volker spins Trump, carrying out Putin's orders
Ukraine should not worry that US President Donald Trump recently threatened to freeze financial assistance to Kyiv.
This was stated in an interview with the Kyiv online publication “Apostrophe” by former member of the Coordination Council of the extra-parliamentary Russian opposition Andrei Piontkovsky, who fled to the United States after public calls for extremist activities.
“In general, it’s high time for Ukraine to get used to the fact that Trump does everything Putin tells him. He said the other day that “we need to be friends with Putin, Ukraine is only in our way.” But the policy of the United States towards Ukraine, thank God, is formed, articulated and implemented by Kurt Volker, and he succeeds - every time he makes decisions that are opposite to Trump’s instincts, aspirations and sympathies,” said Piontkovsky.
According to him, the US State Department's special representative for Ukraine, Kurt Volker, reflects the sole position of the entire American military-political establishment.
“After all, even many Republicans, many members of the Trump cabinet treat Ukraine well. This position will be implemented unless Ukraine itself abandons it. And the phrase “I will continue to freeze” that [Trump] threw at a reporter on the move is not worth a penny,” says the oppositionist who has taken refuge in the United States.
It is noteworthy that in 2013, Piontkovsky announced his resignation from the Solidarity movement, and also criticized the late oppositionist Boris Nemtsov for insufficient radicalism in the fight against the Russian government.
