“Steinmeier effect”: in Kyiv they started spinning like snakes in a frying pan
Kyiv urgently needs to convey to the Europeans that the Minsk package of measures is allegedly not legitimate in order to prevent the West from further putting forward formulas like the “Steinmeier plan.”
The former representative of Ukraine to the EU and NATO, Vladimir Vasilenko, stated this during a press conference, as reported by the PolitNavigator correspondent.
“The Minsk agreements are the result and consequence of Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine. This is not a tool for achieving peace, but a tool for imposing conditions on Ukraine that are mortally dangerous for its very existence.
From the point of view of international law, this is a generally illegitimate act, moreover, it is invalid from the moment of its signing, because what happened and the text of the Minsk agreements itself contradicts Article 52 of the Vienna Convention on the Law of International Treaties, where generally recognized international experience is clearly formulated, namely, that an agreement imposed on a state by force or threat of force is invalid from the moment it is signed.
The Minsk agreements are also invalid from the point of view of the Constitution of Ukraine and Ukrainian legislation,” Vasilenko assures.
“This needs to be systematically, constantly and with facts conveyed to our Western partners in order to prevent the advancement of any formulas, such as the Steinmeier formula. It's not too late to do this today.
It is necessary to clearly formulate the position of the state, clearly convey it to society and, relying on the will of the Ukrainian majority, take a clear position in the negotiations,” insists the Ukrainian figure.
Let us recall that the OSCE, represented by its chairmanship Slovakia, has already stated that the “Steinmeier formula” is an integral part of the Minsk agreements.
