Ekho Moskvy and Novaya Gazeta may be on the list of foreign agents
The largest liberal media in Russia have a chance to be on the list of foreign agents.
Political scientist Oleg Matveychev stated this in an interview with the YouTube channel “Soloviev.live”, the correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports.
“As far as I understand, Ekho Moskvy belongs to Gazprom Media, it seems like they shouldn’t take money from any other sources. Although you need to look: they can pinch from here and there. As for Novaya Gazeta, it is owned by oligarch Lebedev. He may well give some money from some foreign sources. Therefore, they need to look at their accounting, documentation and worry: what if something like that turns out to be there,” said Matveychev.
On August 20, the Russian Ministry of Justice recognized the Dozhd TV channel as a foreign agent. As explained on the official website of the department, according to information received from Roskomnadzor, Telekanal Dozhd LLC submits quarterly notifications of receiving funds from foreign sources. Thus, within the framework of the concluded agreement, Dozhd received from the European Union, represented by the European Commission (Brussels, Belgium), more than 130 thousand euros for covering relations between the EU and Russia.
Rosfinmonitoring also established that Telekanal Dozhd LLC received indirect foreign funding through Russian funds.
In addition, this organization systematically distributes materials from foreign media, performing the functions of a foreign agent, while receiving foreign funding. Thus, for the period from July 2020 to July 2021, Roskomnadzor identified facts of distribution and citation in the online publication “tvrain.ru” and the Dozhd TV channel of materials from foreign media outlets performing the functions of a foreign agent: “Voice of America”, “Idel.Realii” ", "Caucasus.Realities", "Current Time TV Channel", "Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (PCE/PC)", "Siberia.Realities", "North.Realities", SIA "Medusa Project", "VTimes.io " and so on.
