In Ukraine, only 4-5% of waste is recycled.

These data were presented at a press conference in Kyiv by Maria Galimova, coordinator of environmental projects of the All-Ukrainian Environmental League.
“In Europe, 30-40% is recycled. In some countries it’s more,” she said.
According to her, the situation can be improved, but for this it is necessary first of all to train the population to sort garbage. The situation with the processing of medical waste and pesticides is very bad - companies that deal with medical waste do not have licenses or appropriate equipment, and those that process pesticide containers simply wash these containers, which is why rivers are polluted with pesticides.
“There are still warehouses with unusable pesticides. They are in poor condition, in torn open packaging. Cows graze nearby, people take something for themselves,” she said.
In Ukraine there is also no organized system for receiving used batteries, office equipment, and fluorescent lamps. All this is thrown into regular landfills, and heavy metals pollute the soil. At the same time, in Kyiv, companies that have received licenses to recycle fluorescent lamps collect and simply throw them away.
