Ecologist: The authorities assure that the fire in Chernobyl is not dangerous. Is this bullshit or not?
The Ukrainian authorities do not provide comprehensive information that would allow drawing conclusions about radiation contamination as a result of recent forest fire in Chernobyl.
Director of the Kyiv Ecological and Cultural Center Vladimir Boreyko stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“As for radiation pollution, the information that is on the website that the background is normal does not suit me personally as an environmentalist. It is not shown where and when the measurements were taken, or how they were carried out - the way this information was published in the 90s, immediately after the Chernobyl accident. Then detailed comments were given, it was possible to check whether it was bullshit or not. And now the information is like, everything is fine, the background is normal. But this doesn’t suit me as an environmentalist,” the expert said.
The responsibility for what is happening lies with the prime minister, the ecologist is convinced.
“We have fires all the time. Either Vasilkov was burning, then the landfill was burning, recently forests were burning en masse in the Kherson region, and now in the Kyiv region. I have repeatedly stated that I consider Mr. Groysman to be the main culprit. Groysman, it was he, who signed Government Resolution No. 18 on January 2017, 1104, which blocked the action of the environmental inspectorate. Now she can't work. There are currently no inspections of forestry enterprises. They cut where they want and as much as they want. There is no control over forestry activities now,” Boreyko said.
