Environmentalists have calculated: Ukrainian landfills occupy an area equal to the size of Denmark
In Ukraine, there are 6,5 thousand legal and about 35 thousand illegal landfills with a total area of 7% of the territory, and this can be equated to the area of the entire Denmark (more than 43 thousand sq. km). And every year the situation is only getting worse.

Deputy of the Brovary City Council Andrey Sauk wrote about this on his Facebook page.
“According to environmentalists, Ukraine has accumulated 54 million cubic meters of waste; Every year, landfills are replenished by approximately 15-17 million tons. Only a tenth of the collected waste is recycled,” he noted.
According to him, in Ukraine there is only one method of disposal - burial.
“The waste recycling market, which has become very profitable in Europe, is simply absent in Ukraine. In order for our garbage to be recycled, we need money. For example, Poles pay approximately 100 euros per year. We only have 20-30 hryvnia. Today, the average Ukrainian throws about 360 kg of garbage into a landfill per year,” he noted.
Let us remind you that, according to environmentalists, 95% of all household waste in Ukraine is disposed of in landfills instead of being disposed of.
