The mass death of Red Book Azov dolphins, which was observed by residents of Crimea in 2017, may be associated with the illegal mining of poisonous sand near Kerch. This is stated in an investigation published online by ecologists from the Nature Patrol organization.

The authors of the video claim that illegal mining of arsenic-poisoned sand near the abandoned Nizhne-Churbash burial ground has been going on near Kerch for more than a year.

Toxic sand ends up in the sea and is also used at construction sites in Crimea. Environmentalists say they have sent numerous appeals to regulatory authorities, but officials are not paying attention to the problem.
