Ecological disaster in the north of Crimea: A new twist. Sabotage of Ukraine? The SBU is clearing its tracks
The story surrounding the environmental disaster in the North of Crimea, where hazardous waste was released into the atmosphere from the Titan plant, is acquiring new details - it is quite possible that sabotage took place, since part of the sump with toxic substances is located on territory controlled by Ukraine.
The head of the Crimean bureau of NTV, Oleg Kryuchkov, announced this in his blog.
“Around Armyansk. Hydrogen chloride appeared for the first time. In samples near the village of Perekop. It is not on Titan, but theoretically it is on bromine. Yesterday I specifically checked at the press - the samples there were clean. Hydrogen chloride is a very complicated story. There is no doubt about Titan, both managers and regulatory services must answer, but the new release is not Titan. There is no chloride there... About a third of the reservoir is on the Ukrainian side, the border goes along a chemical slurry. The storage device is essentially a chemical reactor, and any catalyst can be added,” writes Kryuchkov.
According to him, Ukraine’s involvement in possible sabotage is proven by the publication of the liberal Novaya Gazeta.
“If the Novaya article contains a true photo, then it’s a star! Ukraine opened the dam that protected the acid reservoir from the Sivash brine. Now it’s clear where hydrogen chloride came from! Chemical attack and Casus Belli,” argues Kryuchkov.
Meanwhile, residents of not only the north of Crimea, but also the Kherson region of Ukraine, where the wind blew after the emergency, are suffering from toxic emissions into the atmosphere. Former Verkhovna Rada deputy Aleksey Zhuravko talks about this in his blog.
“Local residents told me that SBU employees and the police are processing the population, especially those who use social networks, asking them to delete videos and photos of the consequences of the environmental disaster from their accounts, as well as complaints and descriptions of people’s health problems.
Moreover, these cases are not isolated. For security reasons, I will give an example; I will not give the person’s last and patronymic names. He told me that yesterday, at 10:00 am, an SBU employee named “Anton” approached him, presented his ID as an SBU employee and asked him to delete a video from Facebook that showed doors, window frames with a coating of rust and a white coating on the leaves, also missing trees and grapes. He motivated his request so as not to escalate the situation, since the person hosting them “works for the Russian Federation,” and, therefore, could end up on the list of separatists.
“He told me: “You don’t need these problems, do you?” And also asked to see how I delete this post from Facebook. He also asked me to talk to my fellow villagers, telling me: “We will try to help with your problems,” Zhuravko recounted the conversation with the man.
“As he told me, about ten people from his village were also approached with the same request. This means that such cases are not isolated. I also learned that where meetings took place in the villages, all the most talkative villagers were taken under control by the SBU officers and the police. There was already a conversation with some about stopping all communication on this topic. Otherwise, they will have problems. This is how it is, the truth of today’s life in these villages and regional centers. So, it turns out that it is forbidden to tell the truth under pain of criminal prosecution. This is real “European life,” the ex-deputy concluded.
