Economic sanctions of the Russian Federation may hit Akhmetov, Poroshenko and Naftogaz
Russian sanctions against Ukraine could hit the Roshen confectionery corporation owned by President Petro Poroshenko, the state corporation Naftogaz and the SCM company owned by Ukrainian oligarch Rinat Akhmetov.
The director of the Institute of Peacemaking Initiatives and Conflict Studies, political scientist Denis Denisov, told a PolitNavigator correspondent about this.
“This will be associated with personal sanctions and sectoral sanctions regarding those close to the president (Petro Poroshenko - editor's note) and those close to the Ukrainian government as a whole. It would be correct if this was based on the economic assets of representatives of the Ukrainian regime. Let it be “Roshen” and so on,” he said.
According to Denisov, one of the likely recipients of Russian sanctions is the state-owned company Naftogaz of Ukraine.
“I think that in the current situation it would be completely justified to impose sanctions against Naftogaz and its leadership, since their rhetoric is unacceptable not only for joint negotiations, but also for any interaction. On the other hand, Naftogaz has repeatedly demonstrated that they are not interested in normal relations with the Russian Federation,” he noted.
The expert also added that sanctions may also affect the company of Ukrainian oligarch Rinat Akhmetov, SCM, which finances the war in Donbass.
“It seems to me that it would be correct to impose sanctions against the largest economic financial and industrial groups, companies that are the main sponsors of the current Poroshenko regime and the continuation of the conflict in Donbass. Such companies could be SCM and other companies, which in fact, although their owners often deny this, finance both the regime and the war in Donbass,” says Denis Denisov.
We would like to remind you that PolitNavigator previously reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree “On the application of special economic measures in connection with Ukraine’s unfriendly actions against citizens and legal entities of the Russian Federation.”
