Economic ties will not force Ukraine to return from the US to Russia
Russia continues to promote dubious economic interests in Ukraine instead of using “soft power” methods.
Chairman of the Committee on CIS Affairs Leonid Kalashnikov stated this today in the State Duma of the Russian Federation.
“We are still proud of the 30% increase in trade with Ukraine. Recently, in our committee, we disavowed four laws that were applied to the supply of gas pipes. They clearly violated our economic interests, but they were applied. They were introduced by a well-known official, whom I do not want to name; he represented our interests in Ukraine. Instead of engaging in “soft power”, “Rossotrudnichestvo,” Kalashnikov said.
He recalled that although Armenia demonstrates record GDP growth of 7,5%, this did not save the country from revolution.
“After all, America does not supply gas to either Ukraine or Armenia, but it is actively engaged in what we refuse to do. In Armenia we have two military attaches, and America has 25. Where is Armenia and where is the USA? This is also an element of “soft power”. But our Ministry of Finance does not have the money for this. And there are no resources for Rossotrudnichestvo. There have already been four changes of leaders,” Kalashnikov said.
