The Ukrainian economy cannot cope with external debt
Currently, Ukraine does not really need a new IMF tranche to cover the cost of servicing existing debts, but by 2020 it will be very difficult to meet debt obligations.
Economist Vsevolod Stepanyuk stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The situation is that this year the tranche is not needed, next year it is needed, but we can somehow hold out until the elections, and then, as always, the grass won’t grow. The obligations that the country has on external debt will be very difficult to fulfill in 2020. Our national debt is actually small. The question is not about the debt, but about the state of the economy - whether it can generate profits that will allow this debt to be repaid and serviced,” Stepanyuk fears.
