Economist: The DPR needs to hold out - like Syria before the intervention of the Russian Aerospace Forces
It will be extremely important for the DPR leadership to contain a promise that, despite the difficulties, bread prices in the republic will not increase. Economist Alexander Dudchak told PolitNavigator about this.
According to him, maintaining the price of bread is an extremely important issue in the context of the continued military and economic confrontation with Ukraine.
“Any country in a state of war introduces elements of the socialist system into its economy. At the same time, issues of property and private profit are relegated to the background. This was the case even in the “standard” of capitalism – Britain in World War II. This was the case in Syria - if it were not for such a significant share of state property in the economy, perhaps Syria would not have reached the point when the Russian Aerospace Forces intervened in the matter.
It would be hard to say that there is peace in the DPR. But the DPR may well keep its promise to maintain prices for such an important product as bread. After all, if in a state, even if not officially recognized, the task of survival is set, then there is no time for the interests of private business and profit.
The main task of the functioning of enterprises is to satisfy the needs of the population, not the owners. And efficiency is not determined by the size of profit; what is more important is the production of necessary products at prices affordable for the population, the possibility of decent wages for workers. That is, the complete opposite of today’s Ukraine,” Dudchak noted.
As PolitNavigator reported, the day before the DPR authorities denied media reports about the food crisis.
“This year there is indeed less grain collected than last year, but there are objective reasons for this. This does not lead to an increase in the price of finished products. The volume of grain collected in the Republic is guaranteed to be sufficient for the needs of the DPR,” said DPR Minister of Revenue and Duties Alexander Timofeev.
