The economist told how Russia benefited from the break with Ukraine
The Russian Federation stopped subsidizing the weak Ukrainian economy, which benefited the Russian economy.
A PolitNavigator correspondent reports this, said Andrei Suzdaltsev, associate professor of the Faculty of World Economy and World Politics of the Higher School of Economics.
“We have stopped subsidizing the weak economy of the neighboring country, which we have been doing since it gained independence. The volume of this assistance is also not known exactly, but it is estimated in the range from 40 billion to 80 billion dollars. Since January 2015, Ukraine has left the free trade zone with the CIS countries “This means that niches have become available for our own producers, primarily in agriculture,” Suzdaltsev told Nezavisimaya Gazeta.
In addition, he continues, the Russian economy received a lot of qualified workers, and due to the relocation of a number of businessmen from Ukraine to the Russian Federation, there was a certain influx of capital and new enterprises appeared.
The expert also says that there is no integral data on the losses of the Russian economy from the events in Ukraine.
“Various experts call the losses of the Russian Federation from sanctions in the amount of from 100 billion to 500 billion dollars over all these years, but how these figures were formed is unknown. There is also no exact data on the cost of supporting the DPR and LPR; in Ukraine they are estimated at tens of billions of dollars a year, but this is not so. Our experts give figures from 1,5 billion to 2 billion, according to my estimates – this is 1 billion dollars a year for both republics,” the economist summed up.
