Economist: It’s time for Russia to stop looking back at Western sanctions against Crimea
The transformation of Crimea into a “showcase for Russia” is happening too slowly; Moscow could take much more decisive steps without regard to the position of the West. Russian economist Mikhail Delyagin made this statement at an international media forum in Alushta.

“We all understand that a hybrid war of destruction is being waged against us... President Putin has already noted that the West treats us like anti-Semites treat Jews. That is, it is clear that it is pointless to call anti-Semites to reason. In the same way, the respected West wants to destroy us, but we appeal to reason. As long as we appeal to reason, we will remain fools,” the expert said.
According to Delyagin, state-owned companies that are afraid of working in Crimea should remember the experience of air carriers.
“Aeroflot has not flown to Crimea for a long time. Then the state made a decision - and no one dared to impose any sanctions - at a cost to themselves. We have an internal analogue of Swift, however, state-owned companies, with a few exceptions, do not go to Crimea...
Sanctions against Crimea were introduced by Sberbank and VTB. Mobile operator Megafon offers a tariff “all of Russia,” but except for Crimea and Sevastopol,” the economist recalled.
“They started talking about the need to create an energy bridge to Crimea the next day of the Russian Spring, but if the bandits had not blown up the line, the bridge would never have existed. The proof is that there is still no running water. But the “great technological state” Turkey, in a comparable time, built a water supply system to Northern Cyprus, and there was enough water for Southern Cyprus as well. And we don’t even have a project,” Delyagin noted.
