Kyiv, January 26 (PolitNavigator, Vladimir Mikhailov) – Increasing gas prices undertaken by the current government will not give the desired result, economist Viktor Lisitsky believes.

“I believe that the very idea of increasing gas prices is a grave mistake. Raising gas prices will not give the desired result - to balance, to find some optimal balance between supply and demand. Most likely, people, the broad masses of working people, will begin to leave gas in any way. Not to mention that this will cause a social explosion. The dissatisfaction with the authorities will be terrible.
There is such a thing - a large-scale effect. If the consumption of a resource decreases, this does not mean that prices for it will also decrease, or rather, the cost of this resource. But there is also another thing - if prices for a resource rise, then when people begin to reduce this consumption, the price for the manufacturer, supplier, will become more and more expensive,” says Viktor Lisitsky.
In his opinion, people will switch to heating with wood, and will begin to collect dead wood where possible. A similar situation occurred in Lithuania.
“The Lithuanians installed potbelly stoves in all houses, apartment buildings, collected dead wood, and lived on it. We need to do something similar,” the economist advises.
