Economist: It will not be possible to keep the hryvnia - the dollar will grow one and a half times
Kyiv, August 27 (Navigator, Yuriy Kovalchuk) – The growth of the dollar exchange rate is artificially restrained by IMF loans and the underprinting of the hryvnia. But the authorities cannot hold the hryvnia permanently - as a result, it may depreciate by 1,5 times, said economist and adviser to the Prime Minister of Ukraine Alexander Kirsh on the Hromadske TV channel.

“The Ukrainian economy is not working. There is not even support from domestic manufacturers. Everyone here wants through some tricks, through manipulation either with IMF loans or with currency interventions of the National Bank... They want the National Bank to support the currency while the country is not working. I will tell you frankly that the current exchange rate is already too favorable for the hryvnia. Today, Ukraine, due to its state of the economy, does not deserve an exchange rate of either 12 or 13 UAH. for a dollar. This rate turned out to be because they are holding on with their teeth, because they are not artificially printing more money,” says the economist.
“Prices will still rise, although the exchange rate will not rise. And then, all the same, the exchange rate will suddenly rise when they can’t hold it, and there will be a one and a half times increase again,” predicts Alexander Kirsh.
