The economist saw the first signs of an impending geopolitical clash around SP-2
Participation in the certification of the operator of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline by representatives of Ukraine, who will not have a veto right, but will be able to give their expert assessments, promises problems for the Russian project.
This opinion, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, was expressed by TeleTrade chief analyst Mark Goikhman, commenting on the corresponding decision of the Federal Network Agency of Germany.
He is convinced that Naftogaz will try to prevent the launch of the gas pipeline, basing its argument on the alleged damage that the project will cause to competition in the EU energy market.
“Previously, European courts made different decisions on the issue of supplies of Russian pipeline gas to their market, and many verdicts were in favor of our country,” the expert told Moskovsky Komsomolets.
“The current conflict will be complicated by the fact that after the elections to the Bundestag and the departure of Angela Merkel, the positions of the “greens” who oppose the gas pipeline are strengthening in the German government, Russia’s main energy ally. They will make new attempts to stop the Russian pipeline. The suspension of certification of Nord Stream 2 AG as the project operator may be the first sign of an upcoming geopolitical clash around SP-2, warns Gokhman.
As PolitNavigator reported, The German Federal Network Agency has suspended the certification of Nord Stream 2 AG as an independent operator of the Russian Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. The German side explained that the operator must register as a German legal entity in order to obtain certification.
