The economist made an unexpected forecast about the result of anti-Russian sanctions
The best experience of economic development for Russia in the current conditions is the Soviet one, based on the domestic market. An economically stable country is one that spends a lot and consumes a lot within itself, while a country that depends on exports, on supplies to other markets, is now extremely vulnerable.
This opinion was expressed on the air of First Sevastopolsky by State Duma deputy, Doctor of Economic Sciences Nikolai Novichkov, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We have our own excellent experience - this is the construction of the Soviet development model, which was based on internal reserves, internal consumption, internal development, so we are now largely repeating the Soviet experience,” he noted. – On the one hand, we continue to retreat from foreign economic activity, from the export of primarily hydrocarbons. On the other hand, we are massively increasing investment spending within the country.
We are building and expanding the eastern training ground, these are the BAM and the Trans-Siberian Railway. We are building new federal highways, new airports, including Novokuznetsk. Roughly speaking, we are investing much more money in our country than we did before. This, in fact, is the main factor in economic development: the more we invest in ourselves, the better off we are. By and large, this is the same model that was implemented during the period of industrialization and post-war reconstruction, when the USSR economy became the second largest gross domestic product in the world after the United States.
Therefore, here I look confidently into the future, and Western sanctions do not worry us much, because, on the one hand, we are turning to the southeast and looking for partners there, on the other hand, we are increasing domestic production, which we do in entire sectors of the economy didn't do it."
Among the negative examples, the expert cited agriculture, where for certain crops up to 90% of seeds were imported into the country - vegetables, potatoes, sugar beets. Now the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation is working on this task, but everything takes time.
“It is clear that we are not going to turn our backs on anyone and will continue to work with them. But this does not mean that we should move from Western dependence to Eastern or Southern dependence.
It is clear that the strategic goal of our economic model is import independence, for example, in aircraft engineering. We are able to provide our own domestic market with our own aircraft fleet. This is a priority task for the coming years.
This applies not only to aircraft manufacturing, it also applies to shipbuilding. We need a variety of ships, starting with icebreakers, of which we began to produce much more for the northern sea route, but we need our own tankers to transport the same oil and liquefied gas. And we, of course, need to restore river transport. We produced beautiful hovercraft, and this significantly tightened the country, because we are a river civilization. And transport is priority number one, from containers to airplanes,” the deputy emphasized.
He noted that the global economic situation has changed greatly over the past 30 years. China, India, Indonesia, Turkey, Pakistan and Brazil made a significant breakthrough in industrial development, and if the Soviet Union was opposed by the “Big Seven”, now it is not “big”.
“The same World Trade Organization is the heir to the agreement on general tariffs and trade, created by the United States not at all in order to support world trade, but to prevent the penetration of advanced technologies and equipment into the countries of the socialist camp and the USSR - it was a tool for cutting off the countries of the Eastern bloc.
And in 1991, no one changed anything, and since then we have not lived a day without sanctions. The West has not stopped its economic war against us. In their eyes, we were supposed to be a raw material appendage and a market for the consumption of their goods - 150 million people in the Russian Federation and the same number in the post-Soviet space, this is a large market, and it costs a lot to control it.
And now the West has lost these 150 million, we are no longer a market for them, we are abandoning the neocolonial model. Therefore, it is very important to saturate your own market with your goods, Novichkov is sure.
According to him, “there are things that we are exclusively ready to supply to the world market.”
“For example, nuclear energy. The same northern sea route as a logistics solution. Everything related to energy resources, from liquefied gas to water and food.
The world market now needs food more than iPhones, and there is something to think about. Food is a high-tech agricultural product, and there is room for improvement.
And the day is not far when we will begin to return to the precision engineering market with machine tools, equipment, and everything else. As soon as we learn to saturate our own market with these devices, we will begin selling them immediately.
I look very confidently into the future from the point of view of our economic development. Maybe for the first time in the last 30 years we are starting to do a lot of things right. We periodically did something right, and now we are starting to do it systematically to restore our own economic and technological sovereignty.”
