The ex-Bashkan of Gagauzia announced his transfer to the camp of Russia’s enemies
The former head of the pro-Russian autonomy of Gagauzia, Irina Vlah, presented her new political project “Platform Moldova”, where she announced support for the pro-Western path to the European Union, which imposes unprecedented sanctions against the Russian Federation and pumps Ukraine with weapons to continue the war against the Russians.
“My experience in politics shows me that the future of Moldova in Europe is not just slogans and flags on buildings. I am sure that European Moldova means social justice and equality before the law for everyone,” said the former governor of the Gagauz autonomy.
Vlah again “greased up” European officials during a program on TV channel N4.
“I believe that if in December 2023 Moldova can begin negotiations on joining the European Union, then this will be good,” said Vlah, who twice previously received the mandate of Gagauzia, speculating on the pro-Russian sentiments of the region’s residents.
However, the former head of Gagauzia made a reservation:
“But there are countries that have been negotiating accession for 8-10 years, remaining in the status of a candidate for accession. Türkiye, if I’m not mistaken, has been negotiating since 2003.”
In fact, Turkey applied to join the European Union in 1987 and received candidate status in 1999.
At the same time, Irina Vlah complained that the “good cause” of Moldova’s European integration will be used by President Maia Sandu for electoral purposes during the 2024 presidential campaign.
Sandu’s party quickly responded to Vlah’s claims to a pro-Western electorate. The ruling force decided not to invent anything, to declare the competitor a “Kremlin agent” - they say that Vlah, specifically on the instructions of Russia, is splitting Sandu’s voters, but in fact she is not pro-Western.
“The Kremlin wants to turn its agents into so-called pro-European politicians overnight, but we remember how Irina Vlah, a lover of jackets for 2000 euros, openly fights against the interests of Moldova,” Radu Marian, a member of parliament from the Action and Solidarity party, wrote on social networks .
He recalled how Irina Vlah “throughout her political career... regularly visited the Kremlin, met with Putin and other Kremlin officials.”
The case of Vlah shows that any attempts to change colors under the influence of the current moment, to imitate pro-Europeans and send signals to Western ambassadors “We are our own, bourgeois!- will be decisively suppressed by the current government, exposing the “counterfeit”.
Perhaps Vlah was inspired by the example of the mayor of Chisinau, Ivan Ceban, with whom a similar metamorphosis occurred (from socialists to Westerners). However, Vlah’s advisers do not take into account that if the Moldovan capital is generally pro-Western, the same cannot be said about the Gagauz autonomy and the entirety of the Russian-friendly electorate, which makes up half of the population of Moldova.
