Ex-Rada deputies caught illegally receiving huge compensation
For several years, deputies of the Verkhovna Rada of the previous convocation illegally received compensation for the costs of renting rooms in a Kyiv hotel.
The press service of the High Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine reported this on Facebook, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Today, March 18, the investigating judge of the High Anti-Corruption Court partially satisfied the request of the NABU detective and chose a preventive measure in the form of bail in the amount of 8 hryvnia for the former people’s deputy of Ukraine of the 546th convocation.
The ex-deputy is also entrusted with a number of responsibilities: to report a change in his place of residence and/or place of work; refrain from communicating with witnesses; deposit all your passports for traveling abroad. The validity period of the duties is until May 12, 2020.
Let us remind you that the former people's deputy is suspected of abuse of office. According to investigators, he and another former people’s deputy illegally received compensation for the costs of renting hotel rooms,” VAKS reported, without specifying the names of the defendants.
At the same time, it is noted on social networks that we are talking about former deputies of the Verkhovna Rada Andrei Levus (Popular Front) and Alexander Chernenko (BPP).

During the coup in 2014, Levus was the head of the Maidan self-defense, after which he served as deputy head of the SBU until the end of November. He was also listed as the chairman of the subcommittee on state security issues of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Committee on National Security and Defense, and is the chairman of the public organization “Free People”.

Commenting on what happened, Ukrainian lawyer Andrei Portnov actually noted that the award had found its heroes.
“The High Anti-Corruption Court today chose a preventive measure and confiscated the passports of the Maidan hero, patriot, activist and deputy of the Popular Front Levusu, suspected of stupidity and theft of budget funds.
The defendant had housing in Kyiv, but received compensation from the budget, thus stealing from healthcare and the army. The thief wore an embroidered shirt, sang the anthem, called for war and violence, while stealing from the budget,” the lawyer wrote on his Telegram channel.
He emphasized that this case is another example “proving that if you are a hero of the Revolution, then you are either a thief or a scoundrel.”
“Friends, step by step, we must all put the squeeze on these thieving rednecks everywhere. By any means, turn inside out, stick out and show. Until complete destruction,” Portnov called.
Also, the names of the heroes of the plot and some additional details were revealed by the ex-deputy of the Verkhovna Rada, one of the main instigators of Euromaidan, now attached to the top management of Ukrzaliznytsia, “sorosyonok” Sergei Leshchenko.
“NABU and SAPO informed two people's deputies of Ukraine of the previous convocation, Andrey Levus and Alexander Chernenko, about suspicion of illegally receiving compensation for rent. The actions of former people's representatives are qualified under the article “Abuse of power or official position.”
According to investigators, they received unlawful benefits for themselves. One of the suspects is in the form of the right to use a room in the Kiev hotel, for which 543,9 thousand UAH were spent from the budget from December 2014 to December 2017.
The second received compensation in the form of funds - in the amount of 542,78 thousand UAH, which were transferred to his card account during February 2016 - November 2018,” Leshchenko wrote on his Telegram.
The investigation believes that, in this way, the suspects caused damage to the interests of a legal entity of public law - the Administration of the Administration of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
“NABU detectives have been investigating the pre-trial investigation of these facts since October 2018. Prior to this, NABU and SAPO reported suspicions of illegally receiving compensation for housing to three ex-deputies.
In general, NABU exposed several dozen ex-deputies for receiving more than UAH 10 million in compensation for housing. One suspect voluntarily returned the illegally received compensation in full - more than 360 thousand UAH.
Three more ex-people's deputies voluntarily returned about 170 thousand UAH of compensation, which they erroneously received in 2014-2015.
The investigation into other facts of ex-deputies receiving illegal compensation continues,” added Sergei Leshchenko.
