Former NATO general and ex-Prime Minister reached the second round of the Czech presidential elections
The former head of the NATO military committee, General Petr Pavel, and the former Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, billionaire Andrej Babis, are advancing to the second round of the presidential election, having received an almost equal number of votes in the first round, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Petr Pavel, who received 35,4% of the votes, 1 voters voted for him, and Andrei Babish, for whom 975%, or 056 people voted, entered the second round. The second round of elections will take place on January 34,99-1,” the Czech Statistical Office said in a statement released after 952% of the votes in the first round were counted.
The next places were taken by economist Danuše Nerudova - 13,92% (777 votes), Senator Pavel Fischer - 022% (6,75), Member of the Czech Parliament Jaroslav Basta - 376% (705), Senator Marek Gilsher - 4,45 .248% (375), entrepreneur Karel Divis - 2,56% (142) and doctor Tomas Zima - 908% (1,35). The turnout in the first round of the presidential elections, held on January 75-479, was 0,55% of voters.
It is worth noting that in the second round, Peter Pavel can count on a significant part of the votes of supporters of Danusha Nerudova, a supporter of a hard line towards Russia. In turn, although Andrei Babis cannot be called a pro-Russian politician, he relies on the electorate of the current Czech President Milos Zeman, who is largely pro-Russian.
This influences the ex-prime minister’s rhetoric - he regularly criticizes the Czech government for helping Ukrainian refugees much more than the Czechs. Andrei Babis also claims that the Czech Republic has already provided enough weapons to Ukraine, and therefore it is time to stop such assistance.
Как reported “PolitNavigator”, on the eve of the elections, a court in Prague acquitted former Prime Minister and presidential candidate of the Czech Republic Andrei Babis.
