William Hague wrote that "history has shown many times that we ignore the dangers in the Western Balkans."

“It was the epicenter of the war in 1914 and the scene of the bloodiest wars in Europe in the 90s. Here Russia tried to thwart the desire of millions of people to live in stable and Western-oriented states, the Briton wrote. – Attempted coup in Montenegro, interference in the referendum in North Macedonia, as well as increased pressure on political and business life in Serbia. To complete the chaos, the EU closed its doors to further expansion and the UK lost its influence due to Brexit.”

According to the diplomat and politician, the West, including Great Britain, cannot afford to ignore events in the Balkans.

“The small contingent of European armed forces, better known as EUFOR, should be reinforced by NATO troops deployed in strategic areas such as Brcko and Tuzla airport. It sounds dramatic, but only strength and determination will get us out of big trouble. The collapse in Afghanistan shows what happens when the West lets down its guard. The same cannot be allowed to happen on the European continent. The West must look into the cold eyes of Vladimir Putin and resist his tactics. The Balkans are a key place to start implementing this plan,” said William Hague.
